Symphonia aquatica

(click > zoom)

Wenn Bewegung und Farbe sich im Wasser mit Rhyhtmus und Melodie vermählen, werde still und geniesse die Symphonie Aquatica. If movement and color marry rhythm and melody in the water, become quiet and enjoy the “Symphonia Aquatica”.

Out there, beyond the clouds

(click > zoom)

How to speed up a look so that it breaks through every cloud cover and departs into unimagined realms? Well, one of the methods available to me, is the observation of the space in between things. The tension that builds up between two objects is a fantastic accelerator. The relationship between the objects is an energy that can bring large or small miracles into pictures.

In the workshop “The space in between” we take steps on that path. There still are a few places available… anyone who would like a personal “look-acceleration” subscribes now. Other workshops can be found here .

The man who chose to become a tree

(click > zoom)

Every person takes countless decisions every day, every moment. Some decisions have little detectable effect on their lives, other decisions can make their life irrevocably taking a new run. At the moment of decision, we have no idea what will happen to us and the world. This man, whose portrait I am happy to show here, one day decided to become a tree. If you want to benefit from his experience, then visit him in the woods and just listen to him. Yours truly

The seal

(click > zoom)

There he lies, reaching into the air with his nose. Seemingly eternal and immutable, the sea lion. He lies there on the edge of a basin in Dälhölzli zoological gardens in Bern. I found it funny to notice how a couple tourists searched frantically for the animal which I obviously saw in this enclosure … why else would I take pictures? :)

Flamingo Flamenco - the artists

(click > zoom)

The dance is over. The dance hall becomes quiet. And then they both appeared on stage again, standing there, getting celebrated and with this peculiar, estranged look, they gazed into the audience, as only ethereal flamenco dancer can do. A “cocky rooster” and a “Diva” … proud, stubborn, confident and yet so fragile and sensitive acting.

(If you feel, the picture is too dark, check your monitor settings using this quick and simple to use “monitor calibrator”, thanks to The Good Eye)

Past the last step - Flamingo Flamenco

The dance was over, the stage was slowly coming back to rest. But immediately after, the applause of the crowd flooded the room … This scene shows the Flamingo Flamenco , shortly after the last step of the dance happened.

The salt miner (and other exciting lies)

(click > zoom)

A few pictures from the AMOS-series. AMOS stands for A M atter O f S cale. Perception is a matter of scale too. Again and again I meet scenes on my walks, in which a little “fake” element can lead to amazing views / insights. Adding a readily identifiable scale into a picture, interesting thing can happens in the brain: the scene is now “read” from a different perspective. My claim for the AMOS-series is not a perfect fake, I rather understand it as a playful experiment. The pictures shall allow the viewer to switch between two scales. One day I’ll show a collection of images in a virtual exhibition. I’ll reveal the true scales of the shots later on here in a comment to this post.

Now enjoy the guessing…

Flamingo Flamenco

A visit to the Flamingo pool at the “Dälhölzli” zoological gardens in Bern. How graceful the flamingos were … Even the water can not help but shine.

The journey over the rainbow

(click > zoom)

At some point in time, everyone will start its journey that will lead over the rainbow. “Over the Rainbow” … the contures of the old world start to blur and a new world is about to emerge. A visual encounter with transcendency. I’d love to read your thoughts about this picture or the journey.

Tribal meeting

(click > zoom)

(click > zoom)

It was cold. Very, very cold. The market stalls in Bern were completely packed with these insulating films and the morning sun shone through these “tents”. The hustle and bustle reminded me of a bazaar, and that quickly brought up the association of a “tribal meeting”. (I hope you can appreciate that I was photographing at -17° C. (1.4°F) :))
